Selside School Success - 2 days of living in the woods lighting fires and sleeping out

19th July 2012

9 children had an amazing time in the woods, learning how to light fires, whittle wood and make their own impressive shelter to sleep in.

The 6 and 7-year-olds explored, created and learnt many skills during their 2 days in the woods. They were given the time and space they needed to become at ease in their woodland home. As a group, they designed and built a wonderful shelter large enough for them all to sleep in with their teacher. They discovered lots of different ways of using the natural materials they found in the woods and created some brilliant woodcraft to take home with them. We had lots of fun, stories, songs and campfire treats over the 2 days and nobody (including us) wanted to go home back to the 'real world'! The Woodmatters team were incredibly impressed at their resourcefulness and resilience in the somewhat soggy weather! Well done Selside!

If your school would be interested in coming out to the woods with us contact us to talk it through.
