Footprints

A session based around sustainable design, thinking and resource use. Using the inspirational Footprint building as a stimulus we will explore the materials and choices made in its design and construction.

Session outline

A materials “treasure hunt” is a fun way to explore the Footprint Building and gives us a starting point for discussing the materials and choices made in its design. This leads onto topics around lifecycles, natural materials, properties of materials, weather, mathematics and design. In groups, we will investigate the properties of the different materials used and carry out some scientific experiments. In the afternoon we will explore the woodlands and work in groups to use the natural materials around us to construct mini natural shelters.

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful experience you have given the kids the last couple of days! I have never heard such a praise after any kind of residential or experience. You are both wonderful and those kids will enjoy the memories forever. Thank you both so much.
